After wandering around on the Olympic NP beaches we headed inland to check out the Hoh Rain Forest. The trees were covered in moss and other epiphytes. The more dramatic moss covered trees are the bigleaf maples (Acer macrophyllum), but the spruce, redwood and cedars are impressive there as well. They get an impressive 12 feet of rain there per year. Luckily when we were there it was nice and sunny.
I had Christine run down the trail to help get some perspective in this shot of a fallen Sitka Spruce. The log is slowly decomposing along the trail and is over 200 feet long.
